This course provides an exceptional and broad overview of the essential knowledge of composite materials and the processes involved in manufacture and repair of structures. Hands-on projects involve the use of glass, aramid ( Kevlar™ ), and carbon fibers combined with high strength epoxy resin systems.
Topics Covered
- History, trends, and recent developments in composite materials for Aero/ Auto/ Marine/ etc.
- The science behind composite materials; resin ( matrix ) systems, single & hybrid fiber reinforcements and core materials
- Composites design, the basic ( essential ) theory of composites structures design
- Health and Safety; handling and disposing of substances, composite shop requirements
- Structural repair techniques / procedures and quality assurance on structural repairs
- Material handling – required shop practices – environment, cutting, grinding, sanding etc.
- Vacuum bagging and curing processes for wet-layup localized repairs
Prerequisites
Prior composites experience or training is not required.
