This e-learning session makes use of online presentations. The presentation material is based in the content of ICAO Annex 19 and UK CAA CAP 795.
This course is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the principals and structure of Safety Management Systems as defined by ICAO in document Annex 19. The course starts with an explanation of the purpose and philosophy of SMS detailing the industry standard “four pillars” model. Students will then learn the policy and objectives of SMS including the recommended structure and processes.
The course goes on to teach students about safety risk management, this includes the definition of risk and hazard, how to identify them and how they can be managed.
Students will learn some of the more common root cause analysis techniques used in the industry and how the results are used to improve safety performance.
The course concludes by highlighting the importance of suitable training and safety communication.
